DISTANZEN – Dinge und Räume in der aktuellen Fotografie und den Neuen Medien

Anlässlich der Eröffnung der Ausstellung „Zeiten und Räume“ im Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop zeigt der Berliner Künstler Philipp Geist (1976) seine Videoinstallation „time lines“. In seiner Installation thematisiert Geist die Themen Zeit und Raum. Dabei verzichtet der Künstler auf den Einsatz von Leinwänden und projiziert direkt von innen auf die Fensterfront des Kurhauses. Es entsteht ein Zusammenspiel zwischen der maroden Bausubstanz des Gebäudes und den abstrakten, geometrischen Videoarbeiten. Geist entwickelt einen Dialog mit dem Ort, der Architektur und mit seiner künstlerischen Arbeit Am Computer lässt er malerische, abstrakte Bilderwelten entstehen, die auf organisch-mikroskopische Strukturen verweisen. Durch ihre Tiefe und Dreidimensionalität symbolisiert die Arbeit den sich ständig erweiternden Raum von Zeit, und stellt durch ihre Vielschichtigkeit und Dichte die komplexen Netzwerke dar. Geometrische, räumliche Formen wie Quadrate, Kuben, durchbrochene Flächen, Linien und Strahlen überlagern sich in einem kontinuierlichen Prozess, bauen ein Gesamtbild auf, um dieses im nächsten Moment wieder aufzulösen, und lassen eine komplexe Bildarchitektur entstehen, die ständig im Fluss ist. Geists zeigt minimal-puristische, teils farbintensiven, traumartigen und schemenhaft-zerbrechlichen Bildkompositionen.

Exhibition “Distances - Things and Places in current Photography and New Media.
Part One: Times and Places

The Berlin-based artist Philipp Geist (1976) showed his video installation “Broken Time Lines” on the occasion of the exhibition “Times and Places” in the Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop. Geist`s installation interprets the themes of space and time. In his concept, he decides against using canvasses and projects directly on the window front of the building, the old Kurhaus, which has already been closed for 15 years. The result is an interplay between the derelict building and the abstract, geometrical video films. Thus, Geist develops a dialogue with the location, the architecture and his artistic work. He creates a pictorial, abstract imagery at the computer, which refers to organic-microscopic structures and physical processes. By displaying depth and three-dimensionality, the work symbolises the constantly developing, enlarging space of a continuing time line, and represents through multiple layers and depth the complex networks emerging from different spatial components spreading in the course of time. Geometrical, spatial forms like squares, cubes, perforated planes, lines and rays, overlay each other in an on-going process and build up a complete picture in order to dissolve it right away. The various elements create a complex architecture of images which is always in a state of flux. By these means, the video installation refers to the derelict state of the Old Kurhaus, which was built in 1970 as a prestigious object and is supposed to be demolished in the near future. It is supposed to be replaced by a large and modern hotel.
