The Berlin artist Philipp Geist (1976) develops a projection mapping light installation entitled
"Gate of Words" at the Meydan-e Azadi tower. The installation visualizes the topics of freedom,
peace, space, and time artistically. In an artistically free and poetical manner, the artist
addresses topics during the installation, which are relevant for Germany and Iran, and develops
a light installation made of colored words and concepts in different languages and abstract,
painterly compositions of images. The Meydan-e Azadi tower in Tehran, also called the
Freedom Square, is the landmark of modern Tehran. The architecture establishes a connection
between the modern, Islamic architecture and the Sassanid style. Geist develops an artistic
video mapping installation and projects it directly onto one side of the Azadi Tower. Visitors can
see the tower from a distance and from close by. The Freedom Square invites you to linger
around. Abstract picturesque image compositions will fit precisely on the building and will be
combined with words and phrases that appear in these scenic elements. Over the course of the
installation and in advance, words and quotes on the subjects of freedom, peace, and time are
collected and integrated, and the visitors are welcome to submit their associations beforehand.
Thus, Geist develops a dialog between the place, the visitors, and his artistic work. The Azadi
Tower is a three-dimensional light sculpture that can be crossed by the visitors. This passing
through has a strong symbolism: gates are places for encounters of the new and the old, and
where both the retrospective of the past and the view into a future of development and change
is made possible. Philipp Geist implements these topics poetically and artistically.

Der Berliner Künstler Philipp Geist (1976) entwickelt am Meydan-e Azadi eine Projection
Mapping Lichtinstallation mit dem Titel „Gate of Words“. Die Installation visualisiert künstlerisch
die Themen Freiheit, Frieden, Raum und Zeit. Bei der Installation greift der Künstler künstlerisch
frei und poetisch Themen auf, die für Deutschland und den Iran Relevanz haben, und entwickelt
eine Lichtinstallation aus farbigen Wörtern und Begriffen in internationalen Sprachen und
abstrakten, malerischen Bildkompositionen. Der Meydan-e Azadi Turm in Teheran, auch Platz
der Freiheit genannt, ist das Wahrzeichen des modernen Teherans. Die Architektur stellt eine
Verbindung aus moderner, Islamischer Architektur und des Stiles der Sassaniden dar. Geist
entwickelt für den Ort eine künstlerische VideoMapping-Installation und projiziert direkt auf eine
Seite des Azadi Turms. Besucher können den Turm von Weitem und Nahem sehen. Der Platz
der Freiheit lädt zum Verweilen ein. Abstrakte malerische Bildkompositionen werden passgenau
auf dem Gebäude zu sehen sein sowie Wörter und Begriffe, die in diesen malerischen
Elementen auftauchen. Über den Zeitraum der Installation und im Vorfeld werden Wörter und
Zitate zu den Themen Freiheit, Frieden und Zeit gesammelt und integriert, schon vorab können
Besucher ihre Assoziationen einreichen. Geist entwickelt auf diese Weise einen Dialog
zwischen dem Ort, den Besuchern und seiner künstlerischen Arbeit.
Der Azadi Turm wird zu einer dreidimensionalen Lichtskulptur, die von den Besuchern
durchschritten werden kann. Dieses Durchschreiten hat eine starke Symbolik: Tore sind
Begegnungsorte, wo Neues auf Altes trifft, und sowohl Rückblick auf Vergangenes und Ausblick
auf Entwicklung und Veränderung ermöglicht wird. Philipp Geist setzt diese Themen poetischkünstlerisch
um.
